Frankfort Substation Fails Causing Widespread Outage

06/24/2011
City Light & Power Superintendent Steve Miller reported that a failure was experienced at the  Burlington Substation in  Frankfort, Indiana  on Friday, June 24, 2011, causing a power outage in the northern, eastern, and partial southern part of the county lasting about an hour.

Spectrum Engineering engineers investigated the BBB fault on July 14, downloading the event files in the BBB relay and the Main relay to piece together the chain of events that occurred.  They inspected the BBB control wiring and tested the BBB relay to ensure that they were not damaged during the breaker failure.  A detailed report was compiled and recommendations for Frankfort City Light & Power were made a few days following the site visit.
