Highland, Illinois Begins Building Fiber Network

Highland Communication Services' (HCS) Open House and ribbon cutting ceremony marked a milestone for those who helped make the city's fiber to the premise vision become a reality.
In 2009 Scott Bowles was asked to perform a feasibility study for the project.  In April of that year the community voted overwhelmingly  "Yes" (75%) to a question authorizing the network with revenue bonds that would be backed by electrical revenues from the city's public power company.  After the city council approved moving forward, Spectrum designed the Outside Plant for Phases I and II.  Spectrum was also instrumental in designing the headend building and specifying the equipment needed.
City officials plan to begin connecting area residents to the FTTP system within the coming months while several test businesses and homes have already begun receiving services.
