Pelican Bay Pursues Fiber Optic Network

02/26/2013
The Pelican Bay Foundation (Naples, FL) continues their quest to bring a fiber optic network to their 6500 residents with best-in-class technology, competitive prices, and first-class service.

After Spectrum developed a Strategic Business Plan for the Foundation, we were engaged to perform a site survey of the community. Spectrum's team completed a walkout in order to identify the most effective design for a fiber optic network while minimizing the impact of the construction process on Pelican Bay's green resources.  The walkout also included the testing of about half of Pelican Bay's residences to confirm that the present wiring is capable of supporting a future network.  As mentioned in the Mid January 2013 "Pelican Bay Post", the "dual approach...allowed [Spectrum] to freshen the business case that was developed in the Spring and to affirm that cost forecast."

The next step for the PBF was to retain Spectrum for Project Management to develop a Request for Proposal to solicit proposals to provide any or all of:
  • Content -- video, Internet and/or telephone
  • Components -- electronics, conduit, fiber, etc.
  • Services to support same -- management, maintenance, and customer service
The RFP responses are expected March 13.
