USDA Utilities Administrator Highlights the Importance of Bringing Broadband to Rural America

On Tuesday, July 19, 2011, USDA RUS Administrator Jonathan Adelstein visited Consolidated Electric Cooperative (CEC) in Delaware, Ohio, to discuss progress on fiber installation and broadband expansion in underserved areas of North Central Ohio.  CEC was awarded an RUS grant of more than $1M and an RUS loan of about $1.4M to aid their project, which is expected to be complete by year end.
Mr. Adelstein was quoted to say, "It'll provide badly needed connectivity for key community facilities and wireless internet service providers.  It will also connect all of Consolidated's substations to support its smart grid technology initiative.  This is exactly what we like to see -- expanded broadband connectivity combined with sustainable, smart grid technology -- delivered to rural America."
Spectrum Engineering has assisted CEC with all design of the network and with construction management for Materials, Outside Plant Construction, and Optical Equipment procurement.
